  2.  Merchant and Zionist activist 
  3.  In his early years, he was active in the Blau-Weiss (Blue-White) Zionist youth movement and afterwards in the association of Zionist students in Germany. In 1933-1939 he belonged to the leadership of the Zionist Federation of Germany and the National Representation (Reichsvertretung). His activities focused on arranging German Jews' emigration to Palestine. In 1939, he followed this course himself.
